Thirst Quenching Grace – Lent 3
Do you remember a time when you couldn’t get enough water to drink? Those of us with wells or even those on township water systems occasionally have expereinced water loss. But imagine wandering in a desert – far away from the life you had become accustomed to or having to walk to a town well to get enough water for your family for the day. All at once you want to stay at the well but can’t because life beckons.
The third week of Lent brings shares encounters with God’s people around the scarcity of water. The wandering Israelites are afraid of not being able to slake their thirst. The Samaritan woman is shocked to encounter a man who talks about never being thirsty again. Through Moses, God shows the Israelites that God’s presence is always near. Jesus shares the Good News of God’s plan for salvation – even for a woman like her!
What are you thirsty for? For wholeness? For justice? For security? Join us as we explore God’s grace poured out freely for us as we continue our Lent journey to the cross. Worship on Sundays is at 8 & 10:15. Sunday School continues for our 3 yr old – 8th grade students at 9:10. See you then.
Other news:
Wednesdays in Lent:
A tradition of the Church is to prepare folks for baptism during Lent with an intense period of catechism study. As we continue our year of basics, we too will spend the Wednesdays of Lent immersed in the study of Church Doctrine, as prepared by Martin Luther.
Tonight we explore the Lutheran idea of Law and Gospel by examining the commandments and the Apostles Creed
You are invited to any or all of the meals. A sign up sheet will be in the narthex for you to host or to bring your favorite kind of soup to share. Please contact Pastor Tina for more information.
Save the Date – Annual Easter Egg Egg-stravaganza:
The bunny has confirmed and we are excited to announce that Shepherd of the Hills will host its annual Easter Egg Egg-stravaganza. We will gather at 1 PM in the sanctuary, do a little hunting in the yard, play some games, and help other kids know about friendship. This activity is free and open to the public.
We need some congregational help – individually wrapped candy (no peanut) for the eggs and baked goods for our hospitality area. Please check the clipboard wall for the appropriate sign up sheet. We could also use some hands and feet to host our community!
Pathways to Prosperity
Recently, SOTH has welcomed Pathways to Prosperity on Tuesday evenings. This group provides economic and financial education for folks yearning to break the cycle of poverty. They share a supper together and then have class. Their little ones also attend classes on empowerment and tutoring.
I was asked by the group if there were some adults who’d be willing to help with the nursery on Tuesday nights. It is about an hour’s time (7-8). This latest group has a larger than normal number of littles. Please contact Pastor Tina for more information!
With praise and thanksgiving,
Pastor Tina 🙂
