The kingdom is for everyone: Truth

This week in worship, we finish Luke 10 by spending time in Word and Service (diakonia).  Mary and Martha find themselves with Jesus in their home.  Martha does what is good and right and expected – she provides hospitality and its making her distracted & worried (think about hosting your own dinner party).  Mary also provides hospitality by hearing the Word (and probably setting more than Martha’s nerves on edge).  Jesus isn’t upset with Martha’s rebuke because her service is necessary.  Jesus invites her into what Mary is experiencing – an invitation to hear about the new kingdom from the One who ushers in.

All are welcome and necessary in the kingdom – disciples, merciful Samaritans, & women.  The body of Christ kingdom is not complete without all of its members. The promise extends to all people – but in this moment, Jesus focuses on these women – a marginalized and precarious gender in the first century – and today. The kingdom is big enough for all – and it is Jesus who goes to those formerly outcast and hidden and welcomes them in.

That’s the truth – in the midst of the pain and struggle of poverty, violence, class and race struggle.

Please join us for worship at 9 AM.  We will sing, pray, worship, & share a meal of grace.

Whoever you are and wherever you find yourself in your journey, know that you are most welcome here.

Blessings,
Pastor Tina
