Man in Black
We’re still on the road with Jesus as he heads to Jerusalem. Along the way, Jesus teaches and models discipleship for his followers – and today’s Gospel lesson is no exception. When asked to teach about prayer, Jesus gave them a template that we still follow today, a prayer that joins us to Christians from the past, the present, and I believe of the future.
But what effect does prayer have? Who is prayer for? In this lesson on discipleship, it is the prayer of the community, reconciling with one another so that together the kingdom may be realized for all of God’s people. The prayer is the beginning of the action that we do as God’s workers in the kingdom.
So where does Johnny Cash – the man in black – fit in with that? His song, Man in Black, spoke of his own commitment of witnessing to the injustices in the world in the choice of his clothing. He also used his fame and music to bring light to those injustices. It reminds us that we can’t fix all the problems but that we, as Christ’s body, can begin with the tools that we have.
Please join us for worship at 9 AM. We will sing, pray, worship, & share a meal of grace.
Whoever you are and wherever you find yourself in your journey, know that you are most welcome here.
Blessings,
