Mission & Ministry News

Ministry & Mission News:
Many thanks go out this week!
  • To the council for their hard work in preparing and presenting the FY 2017 Spending Plan for the church.
  • To the congregation for their attention and deliberation of the Spending Plan.
  • To all the hands that made yummy potluck food for Sylvia & Jim’s Farewell Bash.
  • To the hands that are making the transition smooth…especially Lynn & Barbara
Everything that happens at SOTH happens because of your discipleship!

Thank you very much!

Pastor Tina

Financial Information: The church is currently experiencing a shortfall in available cash needed to pay the monthly bills.  We are asking all folks to designate their giving for the unified giving/operating fund for the next six months.  We are hopeful that this will not only meet our monthly budgeting needs (about $24,000) but also return a cushion to our available cash.

If you use Simply Giving, you can make those changes by going online.  You may click the button at the bottom of this message, which will take you to the online portal.

Faith Formation: We are meeting this week!  Join us at 9 AM for fun and faith.

Advent Devotions: we have available two advent devotionals for your waiting this year.  One is pocket-sized (so you can take it with you).  The other is an ‘open door’ type with a bible verse a day.  Both are available at church for you.

Christmas Decorating: You are invited again this year to bring your Nativities to display in the windows of the church.  Find an open spot and set it up.  This is becoming a favorite for those who share and those who experience.

Hat, Scarf, & Mitten Tree: Each year, a special tree is put up that is decorated with hats, scarves, and mittens that are stitched by you all or purchased as gifts to communities that struggle to stay warm.  You are again invited to bring a ‘warm’ offering for this tree.  A portion of these will be taken to the Faith Kitchen in Dover the first weekend in January.

Wednesday Bible Study: The book of Daniel Chapter 2 on Wednesday, December 14 at 12 PM.  Bring your lunch and a bible.

Worship Servers for Christmas: We are looking for some help on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  We need readers, ushers, and deacons. Sign up at church or contact Pastor Tina.

Christmas 2016 Worship: Worship on Christmas Eve is at 5, 8, & 10 PM.  Christmas Day is a Sunday – and we will have one worship service at 10 AM.

Ecumenical Prayer Cycle:  We join with Christians around the world praying for our brothers and sisters in joy and concern.  For the week of December 11 – December 17, we pray for Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal.  Learn more about these countries when you click on the link, which will direct you to the World Council of Churches website.
