God’s Stewards – Stewards of Faith
The final unit in our year of Basics is called “God’s Stewards – Treasuring What We’ve Been Given.” And when we hear the word “stewardship,” most of us automatically think about money.
BUT STEWARDSHIP IS ABOUT SO MUCH MORE! Stewardship is about managing well all that God has placed into our care. Throughout the next six weeks, we’ll discover treasures we didn’t even know we’d been given, along with helpful perspectives about how to care for those treasures in ways that bring us joy, bless our neighbor, build the Kingdom and glorify God.
This week, we continue our discussion with Stewards of our Faith. Jesus hands us the responsibility of sharing the gift of faith after his resurrection. Our readings for this Sunday talk about being shepherds and sheep – something we know a little of from the name of our church. We are called to treasure our faith and to pass it on through word and deed. Others hear what we say and see what we do – so caring for and managing the faith we cherish and treasure is a huge responsibility – and it’s never done! Help us figure out how to best steward this gift for our community and for those yet to come!
Worship is at 8 AM and 10:15 AM. Sunday School for 3yrs – 8th grade is at 9:15. Adults are welcome to stay to begin a discussion about faith formation in the 21st century.
Thank you …
for attending the May Congregational Meeting. The members gathered approved the minutes of the December Budget Meeting and renamed several designated funds so that they may be better utilized for the growth of the congregation. Four people were also elected to serve on church council: John Seal (who had finished a vacant term), Patrick Wood, John Behling, and Karey Boise, who will serve a one year term as a youth representative. Many thanks for your input, your dedication, and your commitment to the growth of this congregation.
Spiritual Gift Inventory:
As part of our discussion about being stewards of God’s treasures, a spiritual gift inventory has been distributed. This is a tool to help you identify gifts that you have. Please take time to read the questions and to faithfully complete this task. In a few weeks, a Time and Talents survey will be handed out and having completed the Spiritual Gift Inventory will help you. You can download it here by clicking on the link or pick up a paper copy at church on Sunday.
First Communion Preparation – Spring Edition:
Twice a year, classes are held for our fourth grade students to prepare to receive communion. This is a 4 four session class, which includes a lock-in, for the youth and their parents. If you have a child in fourth grade or feel that your child is ready to receive communion instruction, please contact Denise Roberts. The first class will begin on Monday May 12 at 6:30 PM. There is still room for you!
In search of some volunteers:
Fellowship Hour Hosts are needed beginning this week to provide hospitality after our 10:15 Worship service. This includes setup of the treats and coffee as well as clean up. Please sigh-up or contact the office to volunteer today.
Lawn Care: All the rain has left out property rich in green grass. And its growing rapidly. We are looking for folks to volunteer once a week to keep the property looking great (and the lawn cut so we don’t lose kids). We have the mowers. And trimmers. We need you! Again – please sign up or call the office to volunteer.
Church Clean Up: We spruced up for Easter, but now it’s time to dig in and clean up and out! Saturday May 31 is the day – from 8:30 until the work is done. No time commitment is too small. There are tasks for all skills and abilities. Without you, we are unable to maintain our facility.
SOTH Directory Update:
In anticipation for a parish records review, we are asking for your help in updating our records. Have you moved, changed email addresses or phone numbers, maybe even changed your name? Please click on the link to share this information with us! Directory Update
Memorial Service for Audrey Kruse:
In the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection, Audrey Louise Kruse entered the Church Triumphant on February 24, 2014. Please join Audrey’s family as we celebrate her life and her home going to God. A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church on Wednesday June 11 at 3 PM. There will be a time of fellowship after the service to meet with her family and to share memories of Audrey.
With praise and thanksgiving,
Pastor Tina 🙂
