Mission & Ministry News for August 20

Ministry & Mission News:

Thanks to: Gene for coming to the rescue this week and fixing the plumbing in the restroom!

New Worship Service:  The Nurture Team & Pastor Tina invite you to a new worship experiment – Sunday evening worship at 6 PM in the Sanctuary.  Our ‘experiment’ will begin with a spoken service of Word & Sacrament.  We’re starting small but filled with faith. If you have questions or would like to help spread the word, let Pastor Tina know.

Faith Kitchen Prep – this week, we will prep a meal and make takeaway sandwiches for the clients at the Faith Kitchen in Dover.  Hands appreciated and welcomed!  6 PM, Tuesday August 23.

Day of Service: What we are doing…
On Sept 11, we will lend our hands in a variety of ways to support our animal friends.  Here are the activities as we know it for each location:

OSCAR – Drainage Improvements:
1.  Excavate for and install drain system near entry into basement
2.  Build and backfilll retaining walls to re-direct water away from basement
3.  Frame out and install door into basement (currently it’s just an opening)

11th Hour Rescue – Getting ready for Sunday Adoptions:
Some activities could be cleaning different areas of the store, mopping, helping with feeding the dogs, laundry, dishes, and of course playing with the puppies. Staff would be there to guide your group. They should wear comfortable clothes that could get dirty and sneakers.

SOTH:
Making cat and dog treats
Making catnip and rope toys
Making blankets and small animal beds
Organizing the donations for distribution to the rescue groups.

Please sign up at church or contact the office so that we are able to plan accordingly.

Summer Financial Giving: Don’t forget that by using a grocery gift card purchased at SOTH, using iGive to shop online, and by using the online giving portal at www.sothj.org, you can continue to support the mission of the church EVEN IF you are away!

Ecumenical Prayer Cycle:  We join with Christians around the world praying for our brothers and sisters in joy and concern.  For Aug 21-Aug 27, we pray for Oceania: American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia (Maohi Nui), Kanaky, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu (that’s a lot – and some of them are disappearing due to the rising of the oceans) Learn more about these countries when you click on the link, which will direct you to theWorld Council of Churches website.
