Mission & Ministry News for September 23

Name Tags Every Sunday
Who is that person?  What’s your name?  Can we bring name tags back? Yes.

Thank you for finding your name tag, adding some flair, and wearing it this past weekend.  We’ll leave the flair out for a while as not everyone had a chance to find theirs or even decorate it!

Please continue wearing your name tag! This is really important as the assembly changes weekly with new and familiar faces.  Thanks!

OKTOBERFEST:  Our third Oktoberfest is 10 days away!  We are looking for some hands to help set up, serve, and break down this event.
We will open the doors at 4 PM on Saturday, October 1. Tickets are available at church – or get them at the door.  There will also be a 50/50 raffle!  Please share the news with your friends and neighbors.  All proceeds will help our Thanksgiving Outreach!
EDUCATION & FORMATION NEWS:
Kid’s Church & Faith Formation – 9 AM – we started out with an amazing week.  Can’t wait to see what this week brings.

Confirmation – Wednesday at 6:30 PM.  We are studying The Annunciation!

Brown Bag Bible Study – Wednesdays @ 12PM  – We have started a topical study titled “Faith, Sexism, Justice”.  See PT if you’d be interested in an evening version of this study.

God’s Work. Our Hands. T-shirts: Get your church t-shirt!  We are spending a year focusing on our mission in God’s world as disciples.  As a congregation, we share in the wearing of these fun yellow and black t-shirts. (It was awesome to see everyone in their shirts together).  The shirts are available on Sundays and during the week in the church office.  $10/shirt.

2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s: Nancy Wood is walking in the Monroe County (Stroudsburg) event on September 24th and she needs your support! Many of us have loved ones living with a memory disorder. Visit this site to make an online donation or download the donation form and send it in.

Blessing of the Animals:  On Sunday, October 2 at 12 PM, we will once again have a service where we give thanks for the pets in our lives and Pastor Tina will bless them.  All pets – furry, feathered or scaly – are welcome (please have them on a leash or otherwise secured).  If it’s nice, we’ll meet in the outdoor chapel.  If not, we’ll meet in the Sanctuary.

Ecumenical Prayer Cycle:  We join with Christians around the world praying for our brothers and sisters in joy and concern.  For Sept 25-October 1,  we pray for Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine. Learn more about these countries when you click on the link, which will direct you to the World Council of Churches website.

Financial Giving: Don’t forget that by using a grocery gift card purchased at SOTH, using iGive to shop online, and by using the online giving portal atwww.sothj.org, (or click the button below) you can continue to support the mission of the church 24/7.
