P3: Creating Space for God – this week’s news.

We’ve discussed why we pray and what gets in the way.  Now come the HOW question: How do we pray? Before we go there, however, we have to prepare the soil for prayer. We have to create space for God mentally, emotionally and physically for this connection with God to flourish. Our discussion will center on how Jesus did just that – finding a time and place to connect with God.  Join us for worship on Sunday morning at 8 and 10:15 AM.

Worship Servers Wanted!
We are a looking for a few more hands to help serve as Deacons (1st and 2nd), readers, ushers, greeters, counters, media folks, and altar guild set-up and break down.  We will show you the ropes!  As you have seen recently, all of God’s people are welcome to participate the the liturgy.  We have ‘how to’ sheets and lots of folks willing to help.  Sign up and participate today!

Winter Youth Assembly:
Pastor Tina along with Aimee, Karey and Carsen are headed to Long Beach Island for the annual high school winter retreat for the NJ Synod.  Please keep them and all the participants in your prayers as we explore what God means when God says, “You are mine.”  We leave Friday afternoon and return Sunday afternoon.

Winter Weather and Worship:
This weekend poses a challenge for worship.  Pastor Tina will be away and Pastor Bruce Davidson will preside and preach.  However, weather may dictate that Pastor Bruce is unable to travel to Sparta, at which time an announcement will be made via email, Facebook, and the church web page.  If you are able to travel and worship at SOTH has been cancelled, I invite you to worship with our sisters and brothers at St. Mary’s Episcopal on Conestoga Trail.

People Resources:
Not only does SOTH rely on your faithful monetary offerings, but we also are always in need of your skills and your time.  No task or project is too big or too small.  Check the chore board, ask Pastor Tina..  This includes the other note about worship servers but isn’t limited to that.  Many hands make light work of being good stewards of our facility.

Sweetheart Dinner 2014
Save the date for this year’s Sweetheart Dinner on Saturday February 22.  John Seal and Tom Garcia are the hosts for this fun event.  Contact them if you are interested in helping to cook and serve your sweetheart.

Save the date:
The SOTH Youth will host a Mardi Gras pancake fundraiser on Sunday March 2.  This is a kickoff event for the fifteen months of preparations that we begin for the National Youth Gathering in Detroit in 2015.  More information in the weeks to come…But a pancake breakfast is one to NOT miss!

A Blessed Epiphany to you all,
Pastor Tina 🙂
