Summer at the Movies: The Interpreter
Last week, we met Jacob’s favorite son, Joseph. And learned that Joseph, though an inquisitive and unique boy, was also somewhat of a thorn in his brothers’ side. And things being things, we last saw Joseph being led to a life of slavery in Egypt.
Fast forward a number of years to a famine plagued Canaan and a plentiful Egypt. Those same brothers appear before Joseph – now a distinguished and powerful man. Will there be revenge or will there be forgiveness?
This week’s movie is “The Interpreter”. At a pivotal moment, Silvia recounts for her bodyguard an African tradition regarding justice, grace, and forgiveness.
We always have choices to make about how we will interact with those who have harmed us. Will we forgive them in love or will we enact revenge/vengance? This is something that we witness every day of our lives – played out in very personal and public ways.
Please join us for worship at 8 AM or 10:15 AM this week!. See you in church!

Why NOT Rise Up Together?
It’s in Detroit. I don’t know what my schedule will be like. I’m not sure about this Jesus thing. Those are answers that youth and their parents are sharing. And all of those answers are valid. But there is so much more to this amazing gathering that happens once every three years.
The 2015 National Youth Gathering of the ELCA will be in Detroit, MI, a city that is rising up out of job loss and bankruptcy. God is calling us to bring our hands and feet and hearts to this place. Please take a look at thewww.elca.org/YouthGathering page for information and videos about going.
Registration opens for churches soon. Let’s go and see what God has in store for us.
Big Church Picnic:
Crossroads Camp and Retreat is hosting a not big but GIANT church picnic at their facility on Sunday August 17 from 2-7 PM. $10/person/$25 family maximum for food and outdoor fun. It’s a short 45 minutes from Sparta – and a world apart. Visit Crossroads website to register
Hospital & Rehab Visits:
Because of HIPPA regulations, hospitals and other care facilities do not automatically contact churches when their members are admitted. PLEASE call PTina if you are planning surgery or procedures. At the least, we will offer prayers for you and rally the community around you as you heal. If desired, PTina will also visit with you in the hospital/rehab and bring healing blessing and communion. Thanks.
